AP Source: Leonard, Spurs agree on parameters of 5-year deal (Yahoo Sports)

Kawhi Leonard is going to be a fixture for the San Antonio Spurs for years to come. Leonard agreed to the basic parameters of a five-year contract to stay with the Spurs early Wednesday, a deal that could be worth $90 million according to a person with direct knowledge of the agreement. Keeping Leonard, the 2014 NBA Finals MVP, is the first of many things the Spurs hope to accomplish in the coming days.

Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans have agreed on a five-year extension worth more than $140 million. The 22-year-old Davis is entering the final season of a four-year contract he signed after being drafted first overall out of Kentucky in 2012. The Pelicans have made no secret of their plan to build around the 6-foot-10 Davis, who is faster than most players his size, can score from inside and outside, and changes games defensively with his shot-blocking and rebounding.

Chris Sale matched a major league record by striking out at least 10 in eight straight starts, and the Chicago White Sox outlasted the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in 11 innings Tuesday night on a home run by Tyler Flowers. The lefty tied the mark set by Pedro Martinez in 1999 with Boston. The White Sox ace had fanned every hitter in the St. Louis lineup by the end of the sixth.

Lionel Messi helped set up five goals as Argentina trounced Paraguay 6-1 in the Copa America semifinals on Tuesday, setting up a final against host Chile. Messi assisted in first-half goals by Marcos Rojo and Javier Pastore and one of Angel Di Maria's second-half goals. The Barcelona star also helped set up the final two goals by Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain.

Dallas Keuchel allowed seven hits in eight innings to lead the Houston Astros to a 4-0 win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. The performance comes after Keuchel (10-3) threw a six-hit shutout in a win over the New York Yankees in his previous start. Keuchel struck out seven and didn't walk a batter to lower his ERA to 2.03.

Carli Lloyd buried a penalty kick, Hope Solo got another shutout and the United States beat top-ranked Germany 2-0 on Tuesday night to advance to the title match at the Women's World Cup. Lloyd's penalty kick in the 69th minute went into the right side of the goal less than 10 minutes after Celia Sasic shot wide on a penalty kick for Germany. Solo has posted five straight shutouts for the United States in the tournament.

The Chicago Blackhawks said all along that Brandon Saad would be back next season. The Stanley Cup champions parted with Saad in a seven-player deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets on the eve of NHL free agency, wary of a big offer sheet for the rugged forward that the Blackhawks would be unable to match with their salary cap situation. The 22-year-old Saad set career highs with 23 goals and 29 assists in 82 games this past season.

Edsall also receives an increase of $71,000 in each of the final two seasons of his original contract. Luke Ridnour may be in need of a rest - or a good travel agent - after being traded for the fourth time in less than a week. The Oklahoma City Thunder sent the veteran guard and cash to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday in exchange for a trade exception and the rights to forward Tomislav Zubcic. It was just the latest move for Ridnour: After averaging 4 points and 2 assists for Orlando last season, he was dealt to Charlotte last Wednesday in a deal involving Memphis and then almost immediately sent to the Thunder along with a conditional 2016 second-round draft pick for guard Jeremy Lamb.
