After making two moves to upgrade an already solid bullpen, the Pittsburgh Pirates added depth to their rotation on Friday by acquiring J.A. Happ from Seattle for minor-league pitcher Adrian Sampson. The Pirates were 5 1/2 games behind St. Louis in the NL Central, but first in line for a wild card playoff berth. Manager Clint Hurdle hadn't yet discussed the deal with general manager Neal Huntington and was noncommittal about how the rotation would look with Happ aboard.
